Ruth worked for 25 years in the retail industry. While working in retail she went to the Maldives on a dive trip, leading her to return over 30 times. It was during one of these trips in 2012 that Ruth's life changed drastically. She met a local friend who introduced her to her business partner. The stars aligned for her as the law changed in that last visit, allowing guest houses to operate on local islands. Motivated by a desire to offer a more authentic and local perspective, Ruth chose not to open another exclusive resort. Instead, she aimed to open the Maldives to tourists from a different angle. Resigning from her retail career in the UK, Ruth returned to the Maldives to establish Secret Paradise Maldives, starting with an island hopping tour. The business then started to offer day and multi-day tours for B2B and DMC. She likes to say they are providing unconscious education experience to improve conscious travelling

Ruth's personal favourite part in the Maldives is the Adu Atoll, where it lays the olders cemetery in the Maldives. She enjoys exploring the island on a bike and discovering new locations.

For first-time visitors to the Maldives, Ruth recommends combining local island stays with resort experiences. Each island offers a unique aspect, catering to different types of travellers based on budget and location. She believes that a one-size-fits-all approach does not apply to the Maldives and encourages tourists to investigate the unique aspects that each island has to offer.She suggests that the low season in the Maldives provides an ideal time to visit. The low season allows visitors to make the most of their money while enjoying a pleasant breeze and comfortable temperatures as well as quieter surroundings.
