Ruth from Secret Paradise Maldives: An Inspiring Journey of Local Experiences and Conservation
In a world where unique travel experiences are cherished, Ruth from Secret Paradise Maldives stands out as an extraordinary individual who has dedicated herself to providing tourists with authentic local encounters. Her passion for the Maldives, its people, and the environment shines through in her work. She have been featured in Conde Nest Magazine as one of the 10 insiders to know in Maldives, making her a valuable insider to know in this stunning tropical paradise.
Ruth worked for 25 years in the retail industry. While working in retail she went to the Maldives on a dive trip, leading her to return over 30 times. It was during one of these trips in 2012 that Ruth's life changed drastically. She met a local friend who introduced her to her business partner. The stars aligned for her as the law changed in that last visit, allowing guest houses to operate on local islands. Motivated by a desire to offer a more authentic and local perspective, Ruth chose not to open another exclusive resort. Instead, she aimed to open the Maldives to tourists from a different angle. Resigning from her retail career in the UK, Ruth returned to the Maldives to establish Secret Paradise Maldives, starting with an island hopping tour. The business then started to offer day and multi-day tours for B2B and DMC. She likes to say they are providing unconscious education experience to improve conscious travelling
Ruth's personal favourite part in the Maldives is the Adu Atoll, where it lays the olders cemetery in the Maldives. She enjoys exploring the island on a bike and discovering new locations.
For first-time visitors to the Maldives, Ruth recommends combining local island stays with resort experiences. Each island offers a unique aspect, catering to different types of travellers based on budget and location. She believes that a one-size-fits-all approach does not apply to the Maldives and encourages tourists to investigate the unique aspects that each island has to offer. She suggests that the low season in the Maldives provides an ideal time to visit. The low season allows visitors to make the most of their money while enjoying a pleasant breeze and comfortable temperatures as well as quieter surroundings.
What sets Secret Paradise Maldives apart is its emphasis on local experiences and immersion in the marine environment. Guests have the opportunity to discover the Maldives through the eyes of locals, creating a positive impact during their stay. Secret Paradise Maldives strives to showcase the authentic culture, traditions, and natural wonders of the Maldives while supporting local communities.
Tap to Tip:
Ruth has implemented our newest solution Tap to Tip, originally created to allow travel guides to receive tips even when cash is not available. It supports payments with all major cards and Apple Pay. Additionally, this feature enables guests to leave reviews on the company's Google or TripAdvisor pages. Secret Paradise Maldives has implemented Tap to Tip specifically to facilitate donations to support an NGO close to Ruth's heart, called The Maldives Whale Shark Research Programme (MWSRP). This is a small NGO that carries out whale shark research and fosters community focused conservation initiatives in the Maldives.
